#WHERE TO FIND SONICWALL REGISTRATION CODE HOW TO#
See this other post I made to see how to do thatĪs a quick summary though, you'll just need to save your pipeline anywhere on your filesystem, then load it into ES. all of this still post applies, you just need to change a couple other settings. I did this by modifying the system module pipeline, however, I have since moved it off that and onto it's own input and specifying the custom pipeline, which is what I would recommend now. Hopefully this will help someone in the same situation I was! Just double check the patterns with your own logs with the built in debugger in the kibana dev tools. Granted, this is fairly tailored towards the specific format my sonicwall is using, but if IIRC the sysadmin didn't change those much. I still have a little bit of refining and matching to do to other fields from other modules, but it's universal enough at this point anyone can modify as needed.

On a ubuntu install I modified /usr/share/filebeat/module/system/syslog/ingest/pipeline.json so that my grok filters look like this: "%] So, after lots of frustration I built at this, and it works wonderfully. My sonicwall logs were all getting dropped under the "message" field with nothing being indexed, and surprisingly, there was nothing shared that I could find that was made to index them. At this point, it's dead simple to modify it as needed for whatever is added/missing from your logs.

UPDATE 5/23/20: I just noticed a couple more logs that weren't covered by the current template, so I added a few more mappings in there. For obvious reasons I obscured the IPs and other identifying information, so just plugin your own there or remove it. I also updated the post-filter processor steps, so this should be the final version. UPDATE 5/13/20: Just updated it with the proper ECS fields where they apply, changed \\ to \\\ so it is actually accepted in the pipeline, and removed the last filter as it's no longer needed. I also updated my later processors, so I should revisit that part of this post too. Also, the version in here uses underscores instead of periods for easier checking fields using this excellent tool. I'll come back in a few days with the finalized version. UPDATE 5/12/20: Still have a bit more ECS name mapping to do, but I just updated the grok filter below with what I'm currently using.
